Celebratory Fireworks can cause much distress to our dogs and cats and reactions can range from mild to extreme.

If you have purchased one of my Calming Herb Pots, or a Calming Spray, keep the lid off of the pot on firework nights, spread a little calming valerian, or spray the Calming Spray onto their bedding & comfy spaces.

Its always best to think ahead. So spray comfy spaces & spread valerian around the bedding areas as it starts to get dark.

If your animal starts to show signs of distress you can offer your pre-sprayed hands for extra comfort, the cat & dog sprays will both work for noise fear.
Ivy the dog (above) was so terrified by fireworks in previous years her owner absolutely dreaded this time of year. She used the spray around the house & in her basket before dark, getting Ivy nice & calm, then as soon as the fireworks started she offered Ivy her sprayed hands. Ivy remained calm, albeit still on alert, and the evening was a better one for everyone.
A big box with valerian in can be a great stress beating & fun way for cats to chill & roll in too.

It’s also a good idea to offer these extra steps if you are having friends over for celebrations.

Here are some other things you can you do to help… *Ensure all windows & doors are shut after dark and close the curtains. Put the radio or TV on as a distraction.
*Walk your dog earlier in the evening and make sure cats are kept indoors after dark and cat flaps are locked.

*Build a secure den for your animal with familiar blankets and bedding, and spray with anti-anxiety products which will help to bring down their fight/flight response.

Used with over 700 animals at Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary, Reiki & Herb Calming Sprays and Valerian Herb Pots naturally help to relax and reassure your pet, lowering their anxiety, and helping them to maintain a sense of calm.

Many pet owners report that their animals have remained calm & even slept through the fireworks when using the products, bringing them a sense of great relief.
All products are available from reception at the Sanctuary or here on the website.
Let's try to minimise the distress for our beloved pets in the coming weeks and months.
