International Animal Reiki Day!

Updated: Nov 22, 2024

Animals have always been a constant in my life, and when I trained to be a Reiki Practitioner over 25 years ago, it seemed natural to treat both humans & animals with this wonderful energy healing modality.

Animals are sentient beings, highly intuitive and sensitive to the energies around them. The healing energy of reiki can be used on it's own, or as a complementary healing practice.

Unlike humans, animals very quickly tune into the healing energy of reiki and soon relax and work with the practitioner.

When an animal chooses to work with you, it's body mind and spirit are working as one, tapping into its own ability to heal itself .

Reiki can be given through touch, sat at a distance, or even from a different place from where the the animal is based. It can balance the animals energy meridians & chakras and strengthen the animals own natural healing abilities.

As a Reiki Practitioner, I have personally seen amazing healing outcomes, often when animals have been in great distress.

What can Animal Reiki be used for?

* Aiding pain management for animals who are sick or injured.

* For pre and post surgery pain and relaxation.

* Promoting relaxation and calm for animals with emotional issues, anxiety, separation anxiety or stress.

* Increasing the bond between the human and the animal.

It's a great way to ease an animal's transition to a new home environment.

* Maintaining health and well being through regular sessions.

* Bringing peace and comfort to a dying pet by easing their transition.

In November 2019 the worst thing imaginable happened to my beloved cat Indy, he got hit by a car in the country lane outside of our home...

It must have been by pure adrenaline, but he managed to get to my neighbours garage, where they found him barely conscious.

On seeing him my healing instincts jumped in straight away, and during the journey to the vets I tapped into the healing energies, all the while reassuring him that I was there for him and that we would get through this together.

His injuries were extensive, a badly fractured pelvis and a leg broken in 3 places that needed a steel plate.

He was such a brave boy, but I have no doubt that the reiki healing I gave him from the minute I found him and continuing throughout his recovery made a huge difference.

The staff at the Vets were quite happy for me to administer reiki on my visits and even though we are unable to measure what a difference it made, the vets were quite amazed how quickly he recovered. In cases like this it's interesting how we can work together to achieve the best outcome for the animal.

When working at the Sanctuary, I work with the reiki energies alongside Applied Zoopharmacognosy and Animal Communication. Some animals just want you to just use the Reiki on it's own and will present you with the part of the body that needs attention.

It's all about intuitively listening to them.

AL, a beautiful boy at the sanctuary that I treated with reiki and Zoopharmacognosy, alongside his veterinary treatment, after being in a brutal attack as a stray.

We formed a special bond.

He has now been successfully re-homed.

"When we can see that 'all is well' in this moment, our animals can sense this peace and find great comfort and support in it as they walk their path to healing"

My journey with animal reiki has been an incredible one, and it's been an honour to have provided healing for every one of the 700+ animals I've had the pleasure of working with.

It's great that this healing technique has its own day of celebration, Happy Animal Reiki Day!
